Is an online college degree worthwhile? What’s the best school?

I have a Masters already from a regular college, but i’m considering getting a degree in another subject , perhaps even a PHd. Will an online degree get laughed at by potential employers?

Online programs continue to grow in popularity and acceptance. Many of the finest campus programs have begun offering degrees online because of the advantages they offer. Additionally most programs do not indicate whether your degree was earned online or on campus. That being said not all schools are the same. Just as how some campus programs are not viewed favorably by potential employers same thing goes for online schools. I would recommend contacting a number of schools to see which one is the best fit for you and has the best reputation. I would also make sure that any school you are considering is accredited. I did a search for accredited online degrees and this site seems to have good information and some schools to check out that offer masters degrees, graduate certificate programs and phd degrees. Good luck.

Can you get into law school with a degree from Phoenix Online University?

The question should be whether you can get a BIGLAW job and the answer is yes. All a law school primarily looks at is the LSAT score and the GPA. With those high enough you have a shot at any Top law school. For proof of the BIGLAW job: http://www.gtlaw.com/people/biography.aspx?id=6086&detail=1#edu

I wanted to know about Ashford University?

I live in California and was searching for a online school that was reasonble in price and of good quality. I came across Ashford was wondering of this was a good school to go to. Is this school accepted everywhere and is it as good as other schools. Some say the university is bad and others say it’s a good school. I’m currently in community college and will soon be looking into a bachelor’s degree program. I want to attend class online to maintain my independence. The two programs of interest to me are psychology and education. I’m going back and forth between the two. And i’m wondering if I should be a social worker or a teacher, which are two fields I know I would be good in but thats my problem. I just wanted to know if Ashford is a good school to go to or are there any others that I should look into. I hope this information helps! Any answers or suggestions would be great!

Ashford University http://www.ashford.edu is regionally accredited by the North Central Association. NOTE: California’s state licensure requirements for teachers require a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited school, but there is no requirement that the degree be done residentially.

Is Kaplan University a good school? Is online learning really recognized by employers as worthy?

Do prospective employers consider online degrees the same way as a degree obtained in the traditional manner? I know Kaplan is accredited, but are they a reputable institution?

I am not sure but i know that some universities aren’t reputable. double check with people in your area. Because the last thing you want to do is waste money at a bad school. Good Luck

Should I transfer to Baker College from Ashford University?

Hello! I currently attend Ashford University online and want to transfer to Baker College online. Does anyone know if this is a wise choice for me or should I just remain at the school I am attending. My financial aid is up November 2nd week; they told me at Ashford. They said I can transfer at that time. Do you think Ashford or Baker is a better school? I am taking Bachelor of Arts in Healthcare Administration at Ashford, but will take Bachelor of Health Services Administration at Baker. Actually practically the same degree I believe. Is there a difference I am unaware of between the two degrees? Both the schools are regionally accredited, but Ashford is like $300+ a credit hour and Baker is $190 a credit hour. Classes last 6 weeks at Baker and at Ashford 5 weeks.-Both use Blackboard for their online virtual camus. Do you think I should stay-put or transfer? Any information you provide is well needed. Thank you in advance.

I can’t say whether Baker or Ashford is a better school. My perception is that they are pretty much on the same level in terms of reputation.

Given that the two degrees are almost identical, but Baker has significantly lower fees, I would go for the lower fee option. Any money you can save in obtaining your degree is a bonus. Why pay more for the same item? It makes no sense.

The question that you need to answer yourself is, what motivates you to want to transfer out of Ashford into Baker? If it is just lower course fees, why not? If there are other factors that are more important to you, you will need to assess whether a transfer to Baker will deal effectively with those other factors.

What is a good school to take a paralegal course online? I am looking for at least an associates. ?

I prefer to stay away from DeVry and UOP. I would like a community college for my associates but am not sure if they will offer a complete online degree. Any help would be great.

This site has a couple more schools offering paralegal programs to help broaden your search a bit hopefully:

Good luck!

Who thinks Walden University is a Diploma Mill?

In the old days it was easy to spot a diploma mill. All you had to do was to find out if they were accredited or not. Now every business organization that wants to make a buck is starting a "University". They get a bunch of professors from other schools, come up with a bs curriculum, and sell it to students who had poor grades in high school or undergrad. They don’t ask for a SAT or GRE.

Walden University seems to be one of those schools. The classes are completely canned and ridiculously easy. Students were taking 4+ classes a semester until the school received bad press and stopped the practice. Now their students just sit through classes, doing the minimum amount of work (mostly taken from previous online postings), and get a degree in half the time of a regular school.

Sure it’s not like the "send your check and receive a degree in 30 days" schools, but it’s close.

Has anyone else gone there and what did you think?

They are accredited, but that means very little to the employment world. I received my Masters from Walden in 2005 and it has been treated with nothing but mockery since. Capella University, Phoenix University, and Walden University are not looked up favorably by employers. Given the choice, I would not go back to Walden and wish that I had gone to a better school to begin with. Sure the classes were pretty easy and it did fit my schedule, but the end degree just doesn’t carry the same weight.

I think I did see a ranking for online schools in US News & World Report a couple years ago – and it wasn’t pretty. Walden ranked better than most of the others, but still well below the national average in just about everything. I can’t image that they’ll let themselves be ranked again for a very long time. Distance education can offer advanced degrees in Bachelor, Master, and PhDs, but this school just hasn’t got it right yet.

As for whether or not they are a diploma mill, I’m not sure. I really didn’t have to work that hard for my degree. The classes are all canned and the assignments are simple. Only one or two of the classes gave me a hard time, and that is because I was so use to coasting my way through. So they aren’t the typical degree mill that just sends you a piece of paper, but it is fairly close.

FYI: I was not the greatest student in my undergrad or in high school. I don’t think that I ever got over a 3.0 GPA and I never even took my GRE. AND Walden was still easy. Oh well, I’m considering going to a traditional bricks and mortal school for my PhD.
