Does employers really hired people who complete their degrees online, such as paralegal or business majors?

Only if the individual has a more traditional background as well as the online degree, and if the degree is from a respected institution.

Employers always prefer to hire employees who have a strong work record, particularly with experience in the field. With online degrees, this is even more important.

If you have no experience, go for the bricks and mortar school.

Getting a degree online from University of Phoenix a mistake?

I heard that the degree is not as good as the paper it’s typed on.

Well, I am an employer in the business/financial area so I can give some insight. I generally do not care where you graduated with a Bachelors degree; granted, I will throw your resume out if you have a degree mill listed. UoP isn’t a degree mill so they’re okay. Most people don’t even work in the subject where they receievd their bachelors so really, I couldn’t care less other than putting a checkmark on my HR sheet’s "undergraduate degree required" category.

At the masters level, however, it’s entirely different. I scrutinize where you attended. UoP with the type of applicants i get signals a huge red flag. UoP usually awards masters in business areas to people already with established careers, so they don’t take the type of positions I offer. However, if I see someone without much work experience with a masters at UoP I will dismiss them as a candidate.

I completed B.com in 1982 and joined business. Could I get an MBA degree now, prefferebly online.?

(online), I have applied to University of Memphis to complete a Bachelor’s degree in international business or marketing. I am having second thoughts about my path now. Should I continue with a Bachelor’s in Information Technology or a more specific business fields? Shall I attend traditional campus or continue online? I have done it before, it’s great, but time consuming. For business traditional campus seems like a great idea. But if I continue with IT, then what better place to get the degree than online, where you are forced to deal with more software and the internet? The IT field is growing so fast and there are so many high paying jobs and new fields, but business has a proven success record with hard work. Hard work will, of course, always be necessary. But what field and end to a means is the most noteworthy and reasonable? Give me your opinion.

Congrats on finishing your AA. IT is a great field to be in, you can always pick up an MBA down the road when you have some business experience.

I wouldn’t recommend UOP for the degree, even tho it is regionally accredited and will allow you to be licensed. A Memphis IT degree is best case. Online degrees are great for people who don’t have access to local school, the military, or working parents, but if you have access to Memphis, definitely go there.

If you are going on line, DeVry is the best option.

To correct Kalos, you do NOT want to go to Grantham, it is only nationally accredited, and not a good one at that.

Regardless of delivery method (on ground, online, hybrid), a higher ed institution in the US can have 3 institutional accreditation statuses.

1. Regionally accredited – the highest and most useful.
2. Nationally accredited – real, but not as recognized or useful. Yes it is less than regional accreditation, which isn’t intuitive.
3. Unaccredited

I am interested in getting a BA degree in Human Resources Management, and I am strictly looking at Online Schools. Is Kaplan a good choice?

I’m thinking that UoP is probably the best known of the online only schools but I don’t know that I believe that they have the best reputation.

Be sure that you look beyond the online only schools, they’re good for some people but there are other options out there and most with a solid educational reputation.

Consider:
Central Michigan
Indiana State
Southern New Hampshire
U Arkansas
U Maryland

as just a couple options for online HR study at major state schools.

Consider too whether you want an undergrad in HRM or if you’d be better off with a bachelor’s in business and a master’s in HR or an MBA. The bachelor’s in business will open HR doors and many more but an HR bachelor’s will restrict you generally to HR.
