Has anyone earned a degree online with the University of Phoenix? Are credits transferrable to other schools? ?

Can someone that graduated tell me what their experience was after receiving an online degree with UOP? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It really depends on your field of study. I have never had a problem getting a job with any of my nursing degrees: Associates from a private college, Bachelor’s from a state university, and Master’s from an online university (UOP).

Call the professional organizations/governing body for your profession. Talk to recruiters/employers before you register. Do they require you to attend a certain type of school? Does you school need to be accredited? By any specific bodies? Use this information when you are looking at any school, not just UOP.

I enjoyed UOP more than the traditional school I got my AA and BS from. My masters program consisted of discussions, papers, and projects. For me, the benefit of being able to do school work on my own schedule outweighed the cons of the high cost.

I was working as a nursing educator at a university hospital while attending UOP. My supervisors were supportive of me going to school and liked that I wasn’t taking off work to go to traditional classes. I was able to use many of my work projects for school projects also, killing two birds with one stone so to speak.

Within two months of graduating I had two new job offers (one from a private college and one from the university hospital). I was even on a phone interview in less than an hour of commencement, I was still in my regalia even.

I took the job teaching nursing at the private college. That same semester they hired another faculty member who was completing her Masters at UOP. I am now back at the university hospital, and another nurse is completing her Masters at UOP.

You need to be employed, but not necessarily in the field you study! There are very few degrees at the U of P that require you to be working in that field – the only one, at the undergrad level, that I can think of is nursing. So to be an education major, you’re fine, just as you are.

Go ahead and contact them to discuss your situation. But don’t forget to check out the online (and part time, if that works for you) degree options available local to you. You may be surprised that some of your local state colleges and universities may offer this degree online, and if you can find a public college near you that does so, it’ll be your least expensive option.

Hello. I am ready to start my associates degree at the university of phoenix. I heard a lot of bad rap about the UoP but does it really matter where I go to since my first 2 years will be general knowledge?.
Also what other college do you recommend to take online classes?

Some people talk bad, some talk good. The responsibility of making decisions stays with you because in the end its your gain or loss.
What you need to check is;
is the the university accreditted?
How good is the syllabus? (Don’t go for any thing that seems easy because you will be wasting your time and money)
Do employers prefer other online unis?

Once you get the answers to these questions, you will be able to paint a picture for your self.

I was thinking about taking online classes with UOP. I’ve read a lot of bad things but my sister just finished her master’s degree with them and loved it.

I’m currently a communications major and was wondering if anyone has graduated with a B.S. from UOP.

I don’t want to hear negative comments about the UOP, I’ve read them all and don’t care to read anymore.. So, if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it all……. You’ll be wasting your time.

Well, I won’t say anything bad about UOP then.

However, if online courses are the only option for you, there are many many other options out there for a lot less money and the same accreditation.

No, it’s not on the diploma but most people make that connection by assumption if you have a UoP diploma. If that’s an issue for you then you might be happier with a diploma from a State U online program such as UMass or Florida State.

Is a degree from the University of Phoenix (online) a respectable education in the eyes of hiring companies?

I have a Bachelors of Science, but can’t seem to find a decent job. I am considering going back for my Masters. I work in the day, and must be home in the evening. I will take classes online, but why put the effort if it’s not recognized by hiring managers.
Adam, Thanks for the advice. My BS is in Journalism. I gut tells me to take to long road. But, I don’t know what school or career to choose. No matter what, it looks like I’ll be starting over.

In my 15 years of HR experience I can tell you that Univ of Phoenix is better than a BA/BS degree alone, but they sit close to or at the bottom of any MBA program. What is your BS in?

If you are serious about improving your job prospects you not only need to chose the correct career path but also the best school for you. There are many…MANY schools with a better reputation. They will take longer to graduate, but nothing good comes easy! If you want to pay your tuition and buy a degree as quickly as possible, U of P is for you.
