I wanted to know about Ashford University?

Friday, September 11th, 2009

I live in California and was searching for a online school that was reasonble in price and of good quality. I came across Ashford was wondering of this was a good school to go to. Is this school accepted everywhere and is it as good as other schools. Some say the university is bad and others say it’s a good school. I’m currently in community college and will soon be looking into a bachelor’s degree program. I want to attend class online to maintain my independence. The two programs of interest to me are psychology and education. I’m going back and forth between the two. And i’m wondering if I should be a social worker or a teacher, which are two fields I know I would be good in but thats my problem. I just wanted to know if Ashford is a good school to go to or are there any others that I should look into. I hope this information helps! Any answers or suggestions would be great!

Ashford University http://www.ashford.edu is regionally accredited by the North Central Association. NOTE: California’s state licensure requirements for teachers require a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited school, but there is no requirement that the degree be done residentially.

Ashford Univ.?

I’m considering an online degree through Ashford University. I plan on the Bachelors of business administration. I am a veteran so if there are any veterans out there that have been through this it would help and I am just wondering if anybody has followed this route or one like it with any success. Maybe even suggest another online school?

Thanks

Ashford University is an accredited institution (check my 1st link) so you should feel comfortable enrolling in a program there.

However, if you’re considering other options, there are many schools that offer a Bachelors degree in Business Administration such as Strayer University, Jones International University and South University (check my 2nd link).

Hope this helps.

Should I transfer to Baker College from Ashford University?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Hello! I currently attend Ashford University online and want to transfer to Baker College online. Does anyone know if this is a wise choice for me or should I just remain at the school I am attending. My financial aid is up November 2nd week; they told me at Ashford. They said I can transfer at that time. Do you think Ashford or Baker is a better school? I am taking Bachelor of Arts in Healthcare Administration at Ashford, but will take Bachelor of Health Services Administration at Baker. Actually practically the same degree I believe. Is there a difference I am unaware of between the two degrees? Both the schools are regionally accredited, but Ashford is like $300+ a credit hour and Baker is $190 a credit hour. Classes last 6 weeks at Baker and at Ashford 5 weeks.-Both use Blackboard for their online virtual camus. Do you think I should stay-put or transfer? Any information you provide is well needed. Thank you in advance.

I can’t say whether Baker or Ashford is a better school. My perception is that they are pretty much on the same level in terms of reputation.

Given that the two degrees are almost identical, but Baker has significantly lower fees, I would go for the lower fee option. Any money you can save in obtaining your degree is a bonus. Why pay more for the same item? It makes no sense.

The question that you need to answer yourself is, what motivates you to want to transfer out of Ashford into Baker? If it is just lower course fees, why not? If there are other factors that are more important to you, you will need to assess whether a transfer to Baker will deal effectively with those other factors.

Ashford University again?

I have posted 2 weeks ago a question about ASHFORD UNIVERSITY online. Some of you have said that a degree with them is pretty much worthless. I have many hours from different colleges, and at Ashford I will need only 33 h. of upper division to finish my major. Somehow I feel like that college is a spam, money mone money….. I know it cost a lot, but I have only 11 classes left…. this is the easiest way to get a B.A as fast as I can. I am tired to go to school at night, becaus eI have to stay home with my kids during the day..
PLEASE give me more info about this college or anyother ONLINE COLLEGE

thanks

I did a little research on it.

It is a regionally accredited university with an actual campus, and that is good news. It has been around since 1918, so it is not a recent online only college startup.

It is owned by a for profit company. That is not so good. The general concern one has about for profit universities is that they may sacrifice educational quality for profits.

US News and World Report has a profile on them. It lists them as being less selective, and ranks them in the fourth tier among colleges in their category.

If you are getting your degree online, you are on the right track in going for colleges with a campus, and with regional accreditation. But if you can find one that is better recognized it may serve you well in the end, even it if takes a little longer to complete your degree.

Ashford University?

I’m looking into getting my degree through an online program and have been trying to do as much research as possible. As of now I am seriously considering Ashford University. I’m just wondering if anyone has had experience with this school or know of anyone who has. If you have any feedback on this school I would greatly appreciate the insight. I’ve found a good bit of information and stats but haven’t yet heard any personal experiences and that speaks volumes to me. So please let me know! Thanks!

I currently am in Ashford University and I’ll tell you that you really want to check out the financial part, as from what I’m told it is going to cost me about a 1,000 per class and that doesn’t include books, which I have to order from some other company, plu you have too many people handling your financial issues and its a real headache having to repeat forms to different financial advice people. I am up to 3 different people handling the money part. Now I’m wondering if I made a big mistake. I just found out that my local university is offering classes and off campus its a deal money wise.

Has anyone heard of online Universities Ellis and Ashford ? are they legitimate respected schools or some of these online degree mill deals? I would like to get a BA from one of these 2 universities because they accept up to 99 transferable units versus 60 in a regular university, I have 100 units….But I would definitively not go for a mill degree. I’M FINALLY GOING BACK TO SCHOOL! I am starting at Ashford University online, and I was wondering …?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they a good school? Does a degree from this school look good on a resume?

Ashford University is regionally accredited, which is the minimum standard you want any university to hold. It means that their degrees are real. That’s a big deal.

That said, Ashford is a for profit school, which some employers dislike. However, Ashford, unlike U of Phoenix, AIU, Kaplan and etc., isn’t *famous* for being online or for being for-profit, so most employers will just see that degree and be fine with it.

Ashford is a lower level school, not particularly academically exciting, not a powerful name, but nothing wrong with it. There is a real campus, with real professors.

In general, I prefer that students do online degrees via reputable, brick and mortar universities like UMass Amherst, Northeastern, Penn State or U Maryland – schools that people know for their "offline" presence. But if you had to pick an online school, you could do worse than Ashford. Still, as with any for profit school, I’m cautious.

This wiki article gives it a nice, broad overview, so you get a feel for the place:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashford_University

So, are they a good school? Nothing wrong with them. Does a degree from them look good on a resume? Well, it doesn’t look actively bad, but there are other online providers with some really great reps as universities, like U Maryland and Penn State, that could be worth your consideration.

Is Ashford University a good college to go to for a teaching degree?

Friday, August 21st, 2009

I was just wondering if any one has attended or taken any online classes from Ashford University? Is it a good college to go to for a teaching degree? Also, does the State of Arkansas recognize them?

I currently go to Ashford University. I love the school and the schedule. The only thing that gets a little rough for me is that all courses are condensed into a 6 week period, so you are reading a whole book in half the time you would normally be able to. Some co ruses require 2 or 3 books. All States will recognize your degree from Ashford but the important question is the teacher requirements for your state. Some require only a BA to teach some require a Masters degree. The Teacher certification does not come from Ashfrod directly it is in conjunction with one of their partner schools Rio Salado College in Arizona which is also a good school.

Does anyone have any advice about Ashford University online?

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

I’m thinking about getting my teaching degree but I’m worried that I’m going to spend all this money and not be able to get a job teaching. I’ve never heard of anyone being a teacher and never stepping foot in a college. This school does its course work on online. Does anyone have any advice?

Ashford is one of the very best online degree programs out there right now, ranked according to quality of course work and quality of online experience.
